Lesson 6

Lesson 6

What should I do about my discouragement?

I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace.  In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”John 16:33

The unfolding of a husband’s secret sin life takes twists and turns that often result in discouragement in the heart and soul of his wife.  These ups and downs can feel like a jolting theme park ride, sending shock waves through every fiber of your being.  It is not unusual to feel dismay, sadness, or despair.  However, it is not necessary to remain in that state, for you can access the power of the Lord, giving you spiritual insights to fight the enemy’s attack.

Beth describes God’s work in her heart this way:  “When life serves up stress, pain, and difficulty, we have a real weapon against discouragement which is gratitude. Sometimes serving with gratitude has to be a conscious choice.  In James 1:2-4, it says, ‘Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.’  I love that through each situation we face, we can trust that God is doing a work in us, even if it is simply to build our character and make us stronger.“

Suggested prayer: Give me strong spiritual weapons, Lord, to fight the discouragement I sometimes feel during this trial in my life.   Lead me to the Scriptures that will guide me to gratitude and peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Information for your prayer partner: Please describe three things in your current situation for which you are grateful.
