Lesson 14

Lesson 14

What about the scars of sexual sin?

Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint; heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony.”Psalm 6:2

The emotional scars from sexual impurity should have appropriate care to heal.  That involves both a repentant spouse and a loving God.  Danielle’s husband reached a point where he was so desperate to be free from his sexual sins that he was willing to do whatever it took, regardless of the cost.  He confessed to her, fully expecting that his marriage would be over.  Then he confessed to his pastor who guided him in creating a plan to set boundaries, get into God’s Word, and establish godly habits.  For him it was freedom; for Danielle it was the beginning of the worst time of her life as she began the journey of working through her anger, pain, and resentment to begin her healing.

God pointed her husband to Ezekiel 37:1-14, the story of the valley of dry bones.  God revealed to him that if He could bring life back to the valley of dry bones, He could also breathe life back into their marriage.  They both hung onto that vision.  “I couldn’t have faced this traumatic issue in my life without God,” Danielle reflected.  “Without Him, I’m sure I’d be a bitter woman by now, but instead He carried me through difficult circumstances and restored my joy.”

“For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”  (Isaiah 41:13)

Suggested prayer:  O Lord, I pray that my husband would have a desperately repentant heart.  Help me to trust You to guide my healing and restore my joy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
