Lesson 21

Lesson 21

What are some of the steps to rebuilding trust?

Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.”Acts 3:19-20a

Danielle admits that she still has difficulty fully trusting her husband.  “The problem is that the things he says to me now, he’s said before, but on those occasions he didn’t really mean them.  He simply said what he knew I wanted to hear and then went on with his hidden life of sin.”

Once her husband finally came clean, God worked in his life and he became a new man.  “It’s still hard sometimes to have total confidence in that because I know how good he was at deceiving me.  On the other hand, I do see changes this time that are helping me regain trust in him.  Perhaps the most significant change is his willingness to communicate more openly.  In the past, if I brought up his sin, he became very angry and defensive.  That no longer happens.  He readily admits that he was living a life of sin and recognizes the devastating effect that it had on me and our marriage.”

Her husband installed web protection on his computer and set up accountability relationships with two other men.  These actions helped Danielle recognize that he was worthy of her trust.  “It’s very hard to open my heart completely and risk being devastated again, but I love seeing how God is working in my husband’s life to redeem him.”

Suggested prayer:  I’m grateful that You provided the way for my husband’s sins to be blotted out.  Bring us times of refreshing as we rebuild trust in our marriage.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
