Lesson 24
Can praying help change my attitude toward my husband?
It can be challenging for a wife to pray for her husband when she learns about his secret sins. As believers, however, it is always right to seek the Lord’s leading in everything, particularly those things that come between a husband and wife. We may not know exactly the words to say but God will hear our heart’s concerns when we meet with Him to pray.
“We, as wives, can more effectively pray for our husbands by lining up our own spiritual lives with what Christ asks of us. When we stay in His Word, seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance, and honor God with our lives, I believe our prayers are more effective.” Kristi hung onto the verses in Romans 8:26-27 because she didn’t always know how to pray for her husband. “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And He who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”
Kristi found it hard to pray for her husband when she wanted healing in her own life, but she was very concerned for her husband’s salvation. “Praying helped me change my attitude toward my husband,” she said. “For several years now, we have regularly had daily devotions and prayer together. It has made such a difference in our marriage. We can both see how God has used prayer as a major part of our healing and restoration.”
