Lesson 27

Lesson 27

I know we need counsel but where do we find it?

Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future. Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.”Proverbs 19:20-21

Even when we are familiar with God’s Word, the Bible, we are sometimes so close to a situation that we find it difficult to sort out the problem when things go wrong. It helps to obtain biblical counsel from a godly person, especially one who is trained in applying God’s Word to life situations.

Thankfully, God uses one believer to help another because we are all at different stages of our spiritual maturity. Pastors, teachers, counselors, mentors, and prayer partners equipped with God’s Word can help others who are struggling with real-life situations. The one who listens to wise counsel based on God’s Word will grow in the Lord regardless of the specific circumstances that surround them.

Kristi stated that once her husband’s sexual impurity was revealed, she knew they needed counsel from their trusted pastor. “It was not easy to admit that our relationship was in such disarray, but we could not begin to dig ourselves out of the complicated situation without some objective advice. We had tried fixing the symptoms of the problem in the past, but nothing was resolved when we didn’t really have a good plan to follow.” Their pastor directed them to people, resources, and accountability procedures that got them headed down a godly path toward purity, healing, and the resolution of their deep needs.

Suggested prayer:  Lord, help me listen to biblical counsel instead of advice of the world. Draw us closer to You as we seek to solve the issues we’re facing. In Jesus’ name, Amen
