Lesson 28

Lesson 28

Where can i get help when there’s so much i need to know?

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”Proverbs 1:7

There is so much for a wife to learn when sexual impurity is discovered. It’s hard to know how to react, what to say, or what the future will bring. The standards for believers in Jesus Christ are the biblical principles regarding our thoughts, reactions, and behaviors. Godly counsel gives us support as we seek God’s best, sort through the issues, make a plan, and live out our Christian lives in the midst of a challenge.

Wise counsel starts with the Bible. Reading God’s Word and talking with God are the foundation. A godly counselor is an important part of resolving the issues related to the invasion of sexual sin into a marriage. There are also scripturally-based books and materials, as well as programs such as this one. God-centered knowledge is powerful.

For example, Jennifer learned that causing ‘toxic shame’ to her husband would not help restore him or their marriage. “At times in our situation, I felt entitled to smack my husband in the face with his sin. However, I chose the difficult road of forgiving again and again. I faced my hurt, knowing that Jesus knew exactly how it felt to be betrayed. I ran to the cross and placed my pain there, where it belongs and where the price was paid. It’s not an easy choice, but the Lord has brought me to that place of surrender. It’s where He provides peace and comfort.”

Suggested prayer:  Dear Lord, I seek Your guidance to resolve these issues with my husband. Help me to find wisdom and truth through godly counsel. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
