Lesson 71

Lesson 71

What Do I Do When My Husband Doesn’t Hear My Concerns?

Let all that you do be done in love.”1 Corinthians 16:14

Jennifer was terribly worried about her husband’s busy schedule and lack of rest. “He serves in ministry and it seems there is never a day off for him to rest his body and his mind.” Jennifer herself was careful to observe a “Sabbath” day each week so that she could stay fit and centered on her relationship with God, but she could not convince her husband to do the same. While his schedule seemed to give him no choice about taking a day off, Jennifer knew that it was an important biblical principle. She just didn’t know how to get the point across so that her husband would take it seriously.

Jennifer and her husband were selected to be part of a huge missions trip sponsored by their ministry. The missions team held regular training sessions prior to their departure, but she and her husband were rarely assigned to the same training group. “We don’t usually share the same small group during trainings. But for some reason the Lord allowed it one night. As it was my husband’s turn to be prayed over, in my prayer of confession that the Father knows my heart for my husband, I just poured out in tears how I feel about him needing rest. I didn’t know it impacted him deeply until after our training when he went to seek prayer from our director. He said that my prayer impacted him deeply and that he was looking to see how God would provide for him to have time apart from his usual grind. I thank God for moving in his heart and I am hopeful that he will make it a priority to get regular periods of rest.”

Suggested prayer: Dear Lord, I don’t always know how to talk to my husband about matters of importance. Please show me the best way to connect and communicate with him. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
