Lesson 75

Lesson 75

How Do I Trust God To Make Changes In My Husband?

Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”Philippians 1:6

It’s often difficult to know exactly how to help your husband when there are few guidelines to help a hurting wife through the unfolding of events. While you desire to be helpful, you are also facing your own emotional reactions to the pieces of information as they emerge. Your security is undermined as you learn ways that the trust in your marriage has been broken. It’s challenging to remember to keep your eyes on the Savior as you deal with the issues you face. You are not alone in fighting this battle. Christ is working in your husband’s life, though you may not be seeing it yet.

Rebecca didn’t really have a discovery moment as such because she knew her husband had issues with pornography before they were married. “Once I began to recognize the extent of the problem, I did become worried – and jealous!! My peace grew as I saw how sincere my husband was in overcoming the sin. He pursued fasting and prayer for three days. At the end of that time, he enrolled in a Bible study for men who are seeking freedom from sexual sin. He was assigned a mentor with whom he communicated on a regular basis. I felt more hopeful. I knew I needed to trust the Lord to deliver my husband and trust him to work through the problems with the Lord. Over time, I became able to trust that the Lord was true to His Word and would deliver my husband, even if evidence seems to the contrary.”

Suggested prayer:  Dear Lord, I pray for You to work in my husband’s heart and life, just as I pray for You to work in mine. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Information for your prayer partner:  What changes do you hope God will make in your husband’s life? How do you think that will improve things?
