Lesson 94

Lesson 94

How Can I See Eternal Hope Beyond My Troubles On Earth?

Our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”XXXXXXX

“Our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18

“It was not easy to choose to fix my eyes on Jesus in the wake of the discovery of my husband’s unfaithfulness,” said Jennifer as she pondered how God was working on her future even in the midst of her life difficulties. “But as I chose to be intentional in my healing journey – finding wise counsel and seeking after the Lord’s face – it became evident that nothing in me, in my past, or anything I have learned growing up has equipped me for something so devastating. As I surrendered every pain to the cross, the Lord has allowed for me to see that He is walking with me hand in and hand, and He is already in my future. The life we live here is only but a fraction of eternity. Jesus knows exactly what betrayal feels like and He feels it with me. He is a very personal God who means to heal the wounds in our broken hearts.”

Jennifer was surprised at one realization she made during her healing journey. “My husband is also, in fact, my brother in Christ. The discovery of his sin was the Lord’s mercy over him and our marriage. It’s easy to be wound up in such deep grief that a wife so badly broken might easily lose sight of this fact. This gave me a fresh perspective that I am to praise God for His grace over my heart. He brought me back to loving and praying for my husband, to treating him far beyond being my offender. He is my husband, but also a brother in Christ who was once lost and now is found.”

Suggested prayer: Lord, give me an eternal view of life and a fresh perspective on my marriage. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
