Lesson 98

Lesson 98

How Can I Tell If We’re Reaching A Level Of Restoration?

Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun. And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to Himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to Him.”2 Corinthians 5:17-18

What does restoration look like? When your husband sinned, he left the godly path and took a route that separated him from God. It separated him from you as well. Any time we are disobedient to Him, we are yielding to self, sin, or the control of the enemy. Such brokenness is not a situation we can fix by ourselves. God provided a way to restoration and reconciliation through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ, on the cross. He offers His grace (giving us what we don’t deserve) and His mercy (not giving us what we do deserve).

Restoration is taking personal responsibility for our disobedience. It becomes evident when people demonstrate by their words, thoughts, and deeds that they are accepting the free gift of Christ’s salvation and allowing Him to be Lord of their lives. They confess their sins, commit to following Him, and continue to walk in His paths daily, loving and serving Him.

“I could see my husband took his habitual sin seriously and was in a kind of mourning,” describes Kay. “I believe in some way that he wished to be found out and left the evidence of his sexual impurity right where I would find it. That night began our journey back to one another and my husband’s journey back to the Lord. He made the call to our pastor, which could not have been an easy one. He went to all our counseling appointments. That meant a lot to me, as I never expected he would do either! He was very humbled (as was I) at how God worked things out for us to stay together as we experienced restoration.”

Suggested prayer: Dear Lord, restore our marriage in a way that we may be a living testimony of Your grace and mercy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
