Lesson 35
What are some ways my husband can get out of his sin?
Rebecca’s husband was drawn into viewing pornography as a 10-year-old when a friend showed him his dad’s stash of magazines. The images stayed with him and he began buying magazines as a young adult, destroying them afterwards so he wouldn’t be caught. When internet pornography became free and easily accessible, he would stay up late at night to watch them after Rebecca had already gone to bed fully unaware of the extent of the problem.
“He told me he was uncomfortable with his habit and became frightened when he realized he couldn’t stop. He talked to me about his commitment to stop, but it wasn’t that easy. He chose a time of prayer and fasting before the Lord, then followed it up with a men’s Bible study on purity and found himself an accountability partner. This all helped me so much.”
Her husband cast out impure images in the name of Jesus and learned to replace them with more godly thoughts. He repented of his sexual sins, as well as the lying and deception that accompanied them. He downloaded web protection software on his computer and learned to avert his eyes from staring at women’s bodies.
His biggest step was to meet with his pastor and church elders to confess his sin and ask for their forgiveness and help. He drew closer to the Lord and to Rebecca as he admitted his struggles and set up accountability standards for himself and stuck to them.
