Lesson 51

Lesson 51

HOW DO I FIND MY TRUE IDENTITY?

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”Galatians 2:20

How is your identity affected when Christ is in your life? If you were being interviewed, how would you answer this question, “Please tell us exactly who you are?” Most of us would describe ourselves according to the various roles we perform in life: wife, mother, daughter, sister, or friend.

Do you see yourself as a follower of Christ? Rebecca studied God’s Word to be sure of her identity in Christ despite what her husband had done. “Your worth is not diminished by your husband’s sin. Be careful you don’t listen to lies; you are not responsible for your husband’s sin. Even if you were a different person or had done things differently, he still may have sinned. There are many reasons for infidelity not linked to who you are as a person. One thing that helped me was to recognize that my relationship with the Lord will last all of my life and into eternity. The Lord is never unfaithful and never leaves me or forsakes me. I needed to abide in His love and reflect on His truth when I didn’t feel special, beautiful or set apart as my husband’s wife.” She personalized Ephesians 1:1-4 to affirm this: “Blessed be the God and Father of my Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed me with every spiritual blessing in Christ, just as He chose me in Him before the foundation of the world that I should be holy and without blame before Him in love.”

Suggested prayer:  Dear Lord, help me to continue to grow in the knowledge of Your love and Your sacrifice for me that I may recognize who I am in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Information for your prayer partner:  How are things going between you and your husband? How has your self-image and identity changed as you’ve gone through this trial in your marriage?
