Lesson 63

Lesson 63

What Can I Do To Serve God’s Purposes In My Marriage?

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.”1 Peter 4:10

If we consider God’s grace, as it is present in our lives, it is almost incomprehensible. God is so good to us with His many blessings, but instead of appreciating them we are often caught up in the problems and offenses that have impacted our lives. God still loves us when we sin, make mistakes, and act out in selfish ways. He doesn’t want us to continue our bad behavior, but He gifts us with His grace to help us find our path back to Him.

“I love to know that I can be the eyes and ears and heart of God in my little part of the world,” Beth reflected, “to shower love on the people He has placed in my life. It comes out of an overflow of the spiritual life I have with the Father.” Her desire is to please the Lord by serving her husband and family as well as working at her full-time job, an exhausting schedule for anyone. “If I’m depleted from running on my own strength, I need to stop and pray and be filled with His presence so that I can do His will.”

Beth is very straightforward when it comes to serving her husband. “I think it’s so important to continue to look at practical ways to bless my husband and I find the simpler, the better. Blessing my husband defies my negative thoughts, puts me in a humble posture that facilitates better communication, and also softens my heart in compassion towards him. It typically provides immediate results and can open up avenues for connecting and even intimacy. My goal is to help him find his path toward the Savior.”

Suggested prayer: Dear Lord, show me ways to use my gifts to accomplish Your purposes in my life and in my marriage. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
